The new legal structure of Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs in England and Wales or SCIOs in Scotland) is one of the most significant new opportunities for the voluntary sector. CIOs provide a new legal form for charities with corporate status and limited liability without the complications of company law. SCIOs have been available since April 2011 and CIOs in England are due to follow in spring 2012. Whilst many people appreciate the general benefits of the CIO, this seminar will go much further, providing an in depth workshop for those establishing CIOs and SCIOs. It will cover: preparing constitutions, applying to register a CIO or SCIO, and the details of supporting existing charities through the conversion process.
See our article for an update on the SCIO principles and timetable.
