Privacy and Data Protection
We take your privacy seriously. Personal information you provide to us though this website or by other means of communication are used only to respond to specific issues you raise with us – for example to respond enquiries about our services, or to process orders for publications. We do not generally send follow up communications unless we believe there are further issues where we need a response from you in order to fulfil your request. If you subscribe to our Kubernesis Charity Advice Service, the service includes provision of email bulletins regarding key charity issues, as well as responding to individual queries (as explained in the description of the service) and you will aumatically a receive a letter towards the end of our period of membership of the Advice Service inviting you to renew. Your details will not be passed on the any other organisation unless you ask us to share your information, or unless we are required to do so by law.
If you make a purchase through this website, we do not hold any credit card information – your payment details are only provided to Paypal (see below) who handle our online payments. We will only receive details of your name, address, email, telephone, and details of what you have ordered.
If you engage our professional services, for example in formation of a new charity, as independent examiners, or to respond to queries under the Advice Service, we may need you to share more detailed personal information, including details about persons other than yourself – for example, to form a new charity we need details of all those who will be charity trustees. We will make clear at the time of asking for this information how it will be used (for example, in forming a new charity we will pass information on to the Charity Commission or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) and we will ask you to get the consent of the others involved. There are some instances when acting as independent examiners were we may be required by law to share information with the relevant charity regulator. In many cases, we will prepare an engagement letter for your signature which will give more details of our services and the use of information you provide.
Most of our client communication is by email – please bear in mind that email is not inherently secure. If you need to share very sensitive details regarding a specific charity with us, or if you need us to respond to such information, please feel free to request other means of communication.
